Pioneers Still Hurricane

Gain 23rd Victory

2007 State Bracket

Carl's Scorecard - Jonesboro Game #3

published Thursday, May 3, 2007

The Pioneers added another victory last Friday night, their 23rd of the season, matching the record maintained for the past 16 years. Their victory came against the Jonesboro Golden Hurricane, in a end of season, state tournament prep game for both teams. Pioneer pitcher Trent Weeks picked up another victory in a low scoring contest with the Hurricane achieving only one run.

The Pioneers get on the board with the lead off runner in the bottom if the first inning. Cody Aycock reaches on the only error of the game, steals second and is scored by a Steven Cesarski single. The Hurricane tie the game in the top of the fourth but the Pioneers quickly rally back with a lead off hit by Aaron Thornton, who is advanced by a Jake Palese hit and scored Kyle Kallsnick with his own single. The last run is scored when pinch hitter Nick Palese is walked and relieved at first by Ross Simpson. Simpson is eventually scored by Thornton on a ground out. Weeks is briefly relieved by Cesarski and starting pitcher Aycock closes out the game pitching the seventh.

The Pioneers advance to the first round of the State Tournament in Camden on Friday, where they will represent the Championship tradition of the Pioneers, let's all wish them the best!

* Cesarski has so many nicknames it is beyond belief. I've heard there are those attempting to compile an accurate list and it now stands at around 70. Hail Cesarski!

Hold the Rope! Carl.
