Pioneers Leash Bulldogs

Spank Springdale!

Carl's Scorecard - Springdale

published Tuesday, Apr. 3, 2007

The Pioneers made the long trek to Springdale last Friday to take on two of the states biggest schools; Springdale and Springdale Har-Ber, the latter a school named after all the good names had been taken. On Friday afternoon the Pioneers met the Springdale Bulldogs and in typical Pioneer fashion put them in the dog house, defeating them 10 - 2. Pioneer pitchers Trent Weeks and Nick Palese joined forces to deny the Bulldogs at the plate, while the Pioneer offense hammered out twelve hits to seize the upper hand in the top of the first and maintain it until the end of the game. The Pioneers game with Har-Ber was canceled due to inclement weather and the Pioneers returned home with another victory.

The Pioneers took the lead in the first inning when a lead off single by Cody Aycock followed by a one out walk by Aaron Thornton and a two out HP by Nick Palese would put three Pioneers on the bases for catcher Kyle Kallsnick, who doubled, bagging three rbi's and putting the Pioneers up 3-0. The Bulldogs picked up two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning from two hits but Weeks struck out two to end the inning. The Bulldogs never cross the plate again. In the fourth inning the Pioneers add six runs with a lead off walk by Ross Simpson, followed consecutively by Aycock who hits safely, Jake Arnold who loads the bases on an HP, Thornton with an rbi single, Steven Cesarksi* a two rbi double, and to put the icing on the cake for the inning Nick Palese with a three rbi home run. The Pioneers final insurance run comes in the fifth when Arnold triples and is scored by Thornton with a base hit. In the bottom of the inning the Bulldogs attempt a come back against starting pitcher Weeks and manage to load the bases with one out. Nick Palese takes the mound and a strikeout and a fly ball leave the Bulldogs denied any additional runs. Action ends quickly in the seventh and the Pioneers win with a final score of 10-2.

* Cesarski has so many nicknames it is beyond belief. I've heard there are those attempting to compile an accurate list and it now stands at around 70. Hail Cesarski!

Hold the Rope! Carl.
